Simple Rename

To rename a picture, type the new name in the New Name box and press Enter. The picture is renamed and then the next picture is loaded. If there is a text file associated with the image, it is also renamed. Do not include the file extension when typing the new name, it is added automatically.

Note: The Enter key and OK button perform the same function. If you are typing new names, it is normally easier to hit Enter than to click the OK button.

Recalling previous new names

Picnam keeps a list of the last 100 names you entered which you can recall and modify for the current picture. Click the arrow in the new name box or use the arrow keys to move through the list.

Skipping a Picture

If you have pictures that do not need to be renamed, pressing Enter without typing a new name moves to the next picture.

Tip: Keeping pictures in sequence

Digital cameras and scanners typically include a sequence number in the file name, which means most programs will show the pictures in order. To keep the sequence when renaming your pictures, leave the number at the beginning of the name. The easiest way to do this is to press the End key in the New Name field, and add your information to the end of the old name.
